  • Guard Oliver picks Washington over Cats    HE WON'T FOLLOW TEAMMATE PORTER    Kentucky will have to settle for getting one of the two basketball prospects from Chuck Hayes' high school alma mater. Adrian Oliver, the more highly regarded prospect from Modesto (Calif.) Christian, committed to Washington last weekend. He and teammate Michael Porter visited UK on a recruiting visit earlier this month.

  • Morris distances himself from Wildcats   University of Kentucky center Randolph Morris was among the record 108 players on the NBA's early-entrant list, which the league released last Thursday. Since Morris made his decision known weeks ago by faxing a letter to the UK basketball office instead of talking to head coach Tubby Smith or telling any of his three fellow freshmen, he has been unreachable.

  • UK Baseball Notebook - May 23    Sophomore John Shelby has been invited to USA Baseball National Team Trials. He is also one of three UK players to garner All-SEC recognition.
  • UK baseball season ends with 12-1 loss    The University of Kentucky closed out its baseball season with a 12-1 loss to No. 23 South Carolina yesterday. The Gamecocks completed a three-game sweep.

  • Season ticket sales update     A preliminary look at season ticket sales shows that UK has sold 80 percent of last year's total, according to school officials. UK noted that not all renewals have been processed and that the school hasn't begun filling new season-ticket orders.

  • Azubuike update     UK's leading scorer last season, Kelenna Azubuike, has workouts scheduled with several NBA teams, agent Joel Bell said. Azubuike planned workouts with Phoenix, Memphis, Denver, Houston, New Jersey and Seattle. Those workouts indicate teams are considering taking Azubuike in the first round, Bell said.

  • Rex: UK opposed interracial dating    CHAPMAN SAYS OFFICIALS TRIED TO STOP HIM FROM DATING BLACK WOMEN     Former Kentucky star Rex Chapman told a newspaper that, during his time at UK, school officials tried to stop him from dating black women or at least "hide it" rather than inflame fans.
  • UK basketball loses Echefu to Florida St.    Uche Echefu, a 6-foot-7 forward from Montrose Christian in Rockville, Md., and one of the last high-profile recruits in the 2005 class, said yesterday that he will sign with Florida State.
  • Point guard leans toward Wildcats    The University of Kentucky appears to be a week away from getting its first oral commitment for the class of 2006.

  • Cats' Morris declares for draft    Randolph Morris, who had said he would return to the University of Kentucky for his sophomore season, altered his course yesterday when he told coach Tubby Smith he has entered his name in the National Basketball Association draft.
  • Morris to enter NBA Draft    Smith says freshman will 'test the water'    Before he began his Kentucky career, Randolph Morris said he would explore his NBA options after each and every college season. Word surfaced yesterday that Morris meant what he said.
  • Morris may test NBA draft    University of Kentucky freshman center Randolph Morris will declare himself eligible for the NBA draft but has not hired an agent, thus retaining his college basketball eligibility, according to a Lexington TV station.

  • Homers carry UK past LSU 7-1    J. B. Schmidt and Shaun Lehmann hit three-run homers and Aaron Tennyson and Brock Baber provided solid pitching as the University of Kentucky baseball team beat eighth-ranked Louisiana State 7-1 yesterday in Baton Rouge.

  • Hayes cleared of rape charge    Assistant police chief Ken Hall announced that police have stopped investigating an alleged rape that took place at Wildcat Lodge on April 20.
  • Police end probe into alleged rape at UK    Lexington police said Wednesday that they are dropping an investigation into an alleged rape at Wildcat Lodge unless more information surfaces.
