  • Kentucky Outlasts Austin Peay, 61-53    Gerald Fitch scored 14 points and No. 8 Kentucky withstood a second-half rally to beat Austin Peay 61-53 Wednesday.
  • Lady Govs stop Helm but can't slow other Cats    Austin Peay's scouting report was clear. The Lady Govs knew if they were going to have a chance against Kentucky, they had to stop senior center SeSe Helm.
  • UK routs Austin Peay to win third straight    The University of Kentucky women's basketball team cruised to an 82-56 victory over visiting Austin Peay last night for its third straight victory.
  • Kentucky vs. Austin Peay - Women's Post-Game Quotes    Head Coach Mickie DeMoss  On the victory…   “I thought it was a great win for us. It was a good team effort. We had some people that stepped up when we needed them. Danyelle Payne came in and had a career high of 15 points. With Jenny Pfeiffer getting injured, Danyelle stepped up big for us, tonight. It was good to see Sara Potts get that three-point stroke in gear. I thought we played hard on both ends of the floor. We’re seeing some signs of improvement on our defense with the exception of our second-half post defense. All in all, I thought our team defense was good.”
  • Wildcats Say They're Looking Ahead    For the first 15 minutes of Kentucky basketball coach Tubby Smith's press conference Tuesday, he fielded question after question about the Wildcats' loss to Louisville on Saturday. Then he politely changed the subject.

  • Austin Peay (3-6) vs. (8) Kentucky (7-1)    Two snapped streaks and a significant drop in the poll -- it all ties into the negative momentum Kentucky is contending with as it hosts Austin Peay at Freedom Hall on Wednesday.
  • Govs not intimidated by No. 8 Wildcats    After road games against Memphis, Alabama, Louis-ville, Belmont, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State have all produced losses, Austin Peay (3-6) will try one more time at 3 p.m. today against the No. 8-ranked Kentucky Wildcats (7-1) at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky.
  • Cats clear minds for Austin Peay   UK STEADIES ITS PLAN TO GET ON TRACK    New Year's Eve isn't associated with sobering experience. But that's how Kentucky enters tonight's game against Austin Peay. In its self-appraisal, UK paid a price for over-indulgence in last weekend's loss to Louisville. And if the Cats learned their lesson, it can be a Happy New Year.
  • Lafayette grad Lewis stands in Cats' way
Tall. Quick jumper. Shot blocker. Lexington native Josh Lewis gives Austin Peay just the type of player that messes with Kentucky's bread and butter on offense, its inside game. UCLA and Louisville made UK struggle for its points by having shot blockers.

  • It's too early to say Brooks best fit for UK    It's the trendy corporate code word used by all athletics directors. When speaking about an upcoming hire, refrain from saying you are looking for the best person for the job. Instead, say you are looking for the best fit.
  • Wildcats land defensive end    Northmont's Nii Adjei Oninku can tell you firsthand about the strange twists and turns along the recruiting trail for high school football.

  • One Kentucky point guard disappoints; another steps up    The one point guard that Kentucky expected to play well lost his poise. The Kentucky point guard that some thought might lose his poise kept his.
  • Wildcats' flaws exposed by Pitino's plan    For a team that wasn't supposed to have any weaknesses, Kentucky certainly got exposed by Louisville.
  • ESPN Top 25 Poll
  • Cardinals say their pressure took its toll on Wildcats    It didn't matter how much people were talking about Kentucky's lack of depth, Louisville guard Francisco Garcia knew that if the Cardinals continued to throw pressure at them, sooner or later they would wear down.
  • UK soft spots exposed    The man dubbed "Traitor Rick" orchestrated a 65-56 victory against the school he coached for eight seasons in the building where he was once revered but is now booed by forcing the tempo and beating the No. 2 University of Kentucky at its own game.

  • Eastern's style may help UK    The focus is supposed to be on Eastern Kentucky, but even Kentucky coach Tubby Smith acknowledges that tonight's game could help his Wildcats Saturday against Louisville.
  • Smith added Eastern game for a reason    Tubby Smith might make a mistake once, but he's not going to let it happen twice.
  • Colonels set to face top-ranked Kentucky    During his standout career at the University of Kentucky, Ford and his teammates got used to playing big games against highly-ranked opponents. • Men's Basketball Press Conference Quotes    Head Coach Tubby Smith    “Good afternoon and happy holidays to everybody. I hope everyone is set to have a good Christmas. • Smith has 'Cats focused    Even some of the most devout fans seem to have forgotten that the University of Kentucky plays a game against Eastern Kentucky tonight at Rupp Arena.
  • Cats not taking Eastern lightly    University of Kentucky coach Tubby Smith wants his players more worried about basketball and less focused on candy canes and sugar plums this week.
  • In world according to Sagarin, UK No. 8
The Wildcats might be No.1 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll and No.2 in The Associated Press media poll, but they're not even tops in the Southeastern Conference in Jeff Sagarin's computer rankings. Huh?
  • Helm leads UK past Western Kentucky    SeSe Helm returned to her hometown and tallied 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the University of Kentucky women's basketball team to a 76-63 victory over Western Kentucky last night in front of 2,432 fans at E.A. Diddle Arena.

  • Cats Back on Top    After starting the season with a 5-0 record, Kentucky has earned the top spot in this week's USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Top 25.
  • We're Number One in Dickie V's Sensational 16    It's amazing that so many teams ranked in the ESPN/USA Today preseason coaches poll have tasted defeat already this season. Remember, we will get a true national champion at the end of the season, and that's why college basketball is light years ahead of college football and the BCS (or Brutal Computer System)! Here's my new Sensational 16:
  • Connecticut returns to top spot in men's poll     The No. 1 team in the Associated Press men's college basketball poll changed for the fourth straight week, with Connecticut moving up one position to reclaim its preseason spot.
  • Maybe BasketBowl really is the future
"Basketball will never be the same." So said the public address announcer, his excited baritone booming over the 78,129 stuffed inside Ford Field on Saturday.
  • Father and son enjoyed being part of show
Practically every image that pours from ESPN these days shouts this truth: There is no line between sports and entertainment. Athletes are entertainers. The Purcells of Murray, Ky., got this idea a few decades sooner than most.
  • Fitch finds his groove    Gerald Fitch isn't the type to sweat over one bad game.
  • Obrzut lends a hand    On a day when history was made in front of a record-setting crowd, the trio of Chuck Hayes, Erik Daniels and Lukasz Obrzut made a statement that was louder than the mostly pro-Michigan State fans situated among the 78,129 spectators in Ford Field.
  • Big Blue shows no fear    When the Kentucky Wildcats took the court (or 50 yard line) and looked up to what Gerald Fitch described as "a whole lot of ants on the watermelon," they were supposed to panic right down their leg, weren't they?
  • Kentucky slides up toward No. 1    One of the most unlikely Kentucky Wildcats teams that could rise to No. 1 secured its place and preserved its perfect record in the din of the largest crowd to see a game since James Naismith first raised a peach basket and floated an idea.
  • Wildcats poised to overtake No. 1 spot    Tubby Smith raised eyebrows in preseason when he said this Kentucky team could be as good or better than last season's.
