But senior right-hander Matt Robinson kept U of L from taking advantage of that, pitching five scoreless innings of relief to pick up the decision in a 3-1 Wildcats victory before an announced crowd of 2,341.
  • UK baseball far exceeding expectations    The first pitch Baseball America magazine threw about the Southeastern Conference was that nine SEC teams would make the NCAA Tournament. The University of Kentucky was not in the group.

  • UK safety proving he's quick healer    McClinton back after only seven months    In the days after Marcus McClinton's devastating knee injury last season, he surfed the Internet for information on torn patellar tendons and dislocated kneecaps. "It didn't look too good," he said. Which makes his return to the University of Kentucky's spring football practice, seven months removed from the time of the injury, all the more remarkable.

Mills, a native of Slidell, La., was in Lexington preparing for his junior year at the University of Kentucky when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans.   • Bassett's lawsuit vs. UK dismissed    Judge describes case as 'ludicrous'    Claude Bassett's lawsuit against his former employer, the University of Kentucky, was dismissed from U.S. District Court yesterday before it even got to trial. Bassett, the former assistant football coach and recruiting coordinator whose NCAA violations helped land UK on probation from 2002-2005, was seeking $50 million in his suit that jointly blamed the school, the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA.

  • Pulley makes serious run at QB job    Nimble feet put him with starters    Curtis Pulley might have widened the gap yesterday during an extensive scrimmage at Commonwealth Stadium. The sophomore-to-be led the Wildcats on a 10-play, 70-yard scoring drive and finished it with a 5-yard touchdown run. He also completed 5 of 9 passes for 37 yards.

  • Future Cats, Cards make an impact    UK RECRUITS HELP SECURE OT VICTORY    Disappointing seasons by both the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville probably raised the interest level of last night's Derby Festival Basketball Classic at Freedom Hall.
  • jarvis sees bit of his star in rondo    All UK assistants have looked elsewhere    A ballyhooed basketball prospect coming out of high school. An athletically gifted point guard who struggles with his shooting. An early entry into the NBA Draft.
  • All boos aside, Classic goes to UK and friends    A testy crowd of 14,072 peppered with University of Louisville and University of Kentucky fans took turns booing players headed to opposing schools. The Cards and Cats fans took turns booing each other, too. The biggest boos were reserved for referee Robert Hatfield, who called a foul with 1.1 seconds left in regulation that allowed the White team to tie the score.
